Dear Friends and Supporters,
I am very grateful for your help and support over the years. While the election results are not what we hoped for, I am very proud that during my time on the Board, Howard County Public School System has been one of the top school systems in the state and nation. All of this was possible because of the collaborative efforts of the community and parents working with the board, staff, and leadership.
During my time on the Board I've worked on eliminating achievement gaps, developing a world class wellness policy and anti-bullying policy, and started initiatives for diversity and inclusion, including the recommendation for the coordinator of diversity and inclusion position. This year we had a school calendar that made news across the nation as it reflected the cultures and practices of our diverse community. I have advocated for policies that reflect the American Academy of Pediatrics positions by adding additional nurses in schools and I feel that I have helped pave the way for the board to consider later school start times.
I have advocated for children every day and will continue to do so, not only in my medical practice but also at local, state and federal levels. I am grateful to God for giving me this opportunity to serve our children, I am also grateful to my family and close friends that have been by my side at every step.
I want to congratulate the newly elected members and wish them the very best as they bring new ideas for improving our school system. I hope that every decision made by the new Board will be made with our children’s Education, Health and Future in mind.
