FOR OUR CHILDREN'S
EDUCATION, HEALTH AND FUTURE
Janet has been a resident of Howard County for 20 years. After
high school, she went on to get an associates degree in Accounting
and then her bachelors in Biology at S.U.N.Y. at Buffalo. After
her marriage to Nayab, she continued schooling at Eastern Virginia
Medical School and completed her residency at Georgetown University
Medical Center. During her medical studies, she started her family
and has three beautiful children, two boys: Ahmed, who attends
Clarksville M.S., and Jahanzabe who attends Atholton H.S., and
daughter Javedan who just graduated from Atholton H.S. After
completing her residency at Georgetown Hospital, Janet joined
the Johns Hopkins Community Physicians and has been working as
a Pediatrician for almost 12 years. During this time she has
served children and families in East Baltimore and now for the
past two years in the Odenton area. She is part-time faculty
at Johns Hopkins SOM and teaches pediatric residents, and also
volunteers at a free health clinic. She has been a member of
the PTA and the HCPSS Anti-bullying Task Force. She was appointed
by the Governor of Maryland to serve on the Patuxent River Commission.
She recently presented a case study on childhood obesity at the
Howard County American Heart Association Annual Gala. She has
dedicated her career to helping children and is committed to
children's education, health, and future.
When Janet was asked why she is running for the Board of Education,
her response was, "What's more important than our children's
education? We are fortunate to live in one of the best counties
in the nation with a top notch school system. We need to sustain
that momentum and build on our future generations. I've focused
my entire career on children's health, and now its time to give
back to the community. There are many issues facing our children
today, and with my medical background I feel I can bring my expertise
to the Board of Education."
